"CBS anchor Russ Mitchell predicted that there would be “continued high levels of hurricane activity and high levels of hurricane landfalls for the next decade or perhaps even longer.” “For years now, experts have been saying we’ve entered a period of increased hurricane activity that may last a long time.” Mitchell said on the Sept. 22, 2005 Early Show. Later in the broadcast he added, “since 1990, the number of big hurricanes in the Gulf is up again, and there’s no end in sight.” Now, a decade later that prediction looks laughable since there hasn’t been a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) to make landfall since October of 2005, when Hurricane Wilma struck Florida." wattsupwiththat.com/2015/08/27/throwback-thursday-5-failed-global-warming-driven-hurricane-predictions-10-years-after-katrina/We heard these wild predictions of more and stronger Hurricanes in the near future from many of the AGW hoaxters and now we have gone 10 years without a major storm. Not only were the wild, baseless, politically motivated claims wrong----they were spectacularly wrong. I believe this is the longest recorded lull of such storms ever. Meantime we were also assured that Polar Bears would soon be extinct. But now there are credible estimates of actually increasing populations and the original doom predictors scury to cover their lies with new recognition that they were only using inexact estimates. www.polarbearsinternational.org/about-polar-bears/what-scientists-say/are-polar-bear-populations-booming. Then too Algore predicted 8 years ago the polar ice cap would be gone in 7 years. Uh.....it has grown. www.americanthinker.com/blog/2014/09/al_gore_vs_reality_on_planetary_ice_caps_and_global_warming.html Any of you guys notice a pattern here? Go ahead, OB. Demonize all information sources that conflict with your political/religious beliefs. Tell us the Polar Bears are really extinct, that we really have had more major Hurricanes, etc. Or maybe you & the other hoaxters have been wrong all along? Maybe NOAA can "adjust" their data even more to prove their claims?

When you refer to Global Warming potentially impacting the Sunshine State, could you please give the topic all the respect it deserves?
As you post this, anti-capitalist goons are meeting in Miami to talk about high tides!? Brilliant!
Rational debate on this ended years ago - idiotic debate has not.
Many liberals actually have Global Warming anxiety attacks (even Pre-Traumatic Global Warming Stress Syndrome) when discussing this issue.
Given the gravity of the situation, I would respectfully request that you refer to the proper 'Sunshine State' term for Global Warming.
The Master of Disaster.
The Specter of the Sawgrass.
The Emperor of the Everglades.
The Florida Skunk Ape!

Are you looking for a response to this? Frankly, I found it virtually unreadable, and never did get the point, if there was one.

LOL! I wonder, jon, why you cite reporters rather than actual scientists on scientific matters? (Rhetorical question.) Anyway, AGW is now accepted as fact by everyone--including Pope Francis--except ideologues who have convinced themselves that the Earth is flat.

Did you find it unreadable because it does not follow a narrative?
Another question - where would you recommend someone go for FACTS on global warming?

I get that they're presenting facts, but it's kind of a disorganized mess, to be honest. If I were looking for such data I'd go to this site:
www.climate.gov/maps-data

Because the idea is to present facts and allow you to decide for yourself.

My point was that their presentation is essentially unreadable. It's an amateurish website that looks like something from the 1990s. Poorly structured data dumps don't allow people to decide anything because they're incomprehensible. Just contrast to the NOAA site, which actually allows the reader to navigate among the data points; that's much more useful.

This sums things up well - “The problem with that particular statistic, which gets cited a lot,” Cruz said, “is it’s based on one bogus study, and indeed your response…is quite striking. I asked about the science and the evidence, the actual data— we have satellites, they’re measuring temperature, that should be relevant—and your answer was ‘pay no attention to your lying eyes and the numbers that the satellites show; instead listen to the scientists who are receiving massive grants who tell us do not debate the science,” Cruz added.

The deniers like to repeat ad nauseum their claim that MMGW scientists are biased because they all receive "massive grants." Not once will you hear any of them provide any details on who received which grant for how much money and when, with the scientist in question being left the undeniable message from the grantor that the research results must conform to the company line of the conspirators.

Senator Cruz fails to consider a critical factor when assessing the religious left...
For Warmists, the high priests of the church of anti-capitalism are serious, dedicated and devoted figures.
These 'scientists' often reach the stature of a prophet, deity or messiah for their followers.
They must never be criticized because it constitutes a form of apostasy.
After Gore, the figure most revered is this man...

Only a blithering idiot will consider the worldwide community of scientists to be in the thrall of some type of religion ................... how so many Americans ended up so ignorant is a scandal.

The ignorance is willful. The syllogism is this:
I hate government.
Fixing global warming will require government action.
Ergo: there is no global warming.

Thanks for enjoying my super cool cartoon animals JR - they are all done with Crayola Crayons!
I have now completed (but not yet unveiled) an Old Badger super cool cartoon animal...
OB - Will I get a Moderator 'time out' if your image in Crayola appears more like a skunk than a badger!?

So you see OB - you have proven that liberals do have a sense of humor!
I think the super cool OB cartoon animal will fit best when we discuss the top secret Global Warming conference scheduled for Minsk in 1898...
I'm sorry - wait - I mean Paris in November.

Brisco -
Without speaking for our elder Moderator, I think it is likely that those particular comments were directed my way.
We have had an ongoing discussion on the proper scope & role of the federal government (even preceding this board) that would suggest such.
I am sure he will correct me if I am wrong.

I think the debate is over, there is no man made global warming, just lies like the PAUSE and the 97%.
Never thought I would live to see a day where science in Americacant be debated for fear of repercussions or an America where an avowed communist, idiot like Bernie sanders can be considered a viable candidate.
No wonder they want to take our guns.

Apparently we all inhabit a universe where people either ignore data that doesn't follow the narrative or manufacture data to fit that narrative...

You know Dyson's been saying this since at least 2007, right? Meanwhile, polar ice caps are melting and sea levels are rising, so there's that.

Nobody is denying weather is changing constantly, nobody is saying polar ice caps in some areas aren't melting what were saying is, you're full of shit and we can't do anything about it and all you leftists want is control over our economies. Not one plan or treaty you push helps the environment, you just take , polluting, if you want to call it that , away from us and give it over to the third world along with our jobs.

we can't do anything about it
That's the American spirit, is it? As in:
"Sorry, Dr. Salk, polio has always been with us, and we can't do anything about it."
"Geeze, Jack, the Moon is too far to fly to, and we can't do anything about it."
"Yo, Ronnie, the Commies put up that wall, and we can't do anything about it."
Yeah, America: The Can't Do Nation.
