The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected Ohio State University's bid to dismiss lawsuits brought by alleged sexual abuse victims of a now-deceased doctor who was employed by the school's athletic department and medical staff for nearly two decades. The justices turned away Ohio State's appeal of a lower court's ruling that allowed the litigation to proceed despite having been brought decades after the abuse by Richard Strauss, which occurred from 1978 to 1998, the year he retired from the faculty. Strauss died by suicide in 2005...At issue in Ohio State's appeal was whether the state of Ohio's two-year statute of limitations for such misconduct began to run at the time of the abuse or decades later when the alleged victims learned that the university was investigating Strauss's misconduct.

That's not just bad news for OSU. It's also bad news for a former Wisconsin wrestler, former Ohio State assistant wrestling coach, and current Member of Congress from Ohio: Jim (Gym) Jordan. That's because at least one witness in the case accuses Jordan of trying to cover up this sexual abuse scandal:
[Adam] DiSabato testified before the Ohio Civil Justice Committee hearing, alleging that "Jim Jordan called me crying, groveling, begging me to go against my brother, begging me, crying for a half-hour. That’s the kind of cover-up that’s going on there."...The first athletes who spoke about the allegation said Jordan was like a "friend,” and one of them, Shawn Dailey, claimed that he heard Jordan in conversations where the abuse was discussed, contradicting Jordan’s claims.

So now Jordan has to worry that this long-ago scandal, revived since he's been in Congress, just may bring him down. I wonder how much bravado he's going to lose now that he's going to be the target of a sex-scandal lawsuit?
